Schedule? Ha! We defy schedules!
That’s not true. I love schedules. And order. Sometimes also law.
I also love rules. Thus, while there is no “schedule” per se, there are a few guidelines:
- We will complete one play every two weeks. There are thirty-eight plays. That adds up to about a year and a half… so we might have to make some adjustments here and there. But our goal is every two weeks!
- We take turns choosing the next play. I, Whitney, chose the first one, so I will not be choosing the next. Surely, you get the point. (If you must know the exact order: Whitney, Katy, Hannah, Liz, Whitney, etc.).
- If at all possible, we do not read two tragedies/comedies/histories/romances in a row. Moderation is everything. Also, we’re trying to deepen our understanding of and compassion for the human condition, and reading Macbeth and then Hamlet and then King Lear one after the other frankly might make me hate humanity.
- The exception to 3 is in the cases of the divided plays, Henry VI and Henry IV; these we will read straight through, as painful as it may be.
Here is our evolving schedule:
