And though she be but little, she is fierce.
– Helena, A Midsummer Night’s Dream
Well… I don’t know about fierce. But the little part I’ve got down!
I’m Katy, and I just graduated with a bachelor of science in Organizational Communication and a minor in Drama. I am a very passionate advocate for organ donation; I geek out over Lord of the Rings, Doctor Who, and The Avengers; and my favorite place is Alaska. I am also a drama geek! I will see just about any play I can to get back in the theater, I only listen to musicals, and (obviously) I love Shakespeare.
I may not have enjoyed Shakespeare so much had I not been introduced to it in London. I studied abroad (and met my 4 wonderful book-club-mates) in 2010 and my curriculum included a course called “Shakespeare: The Dramatist.” We read, studied and saw 5 of Shakespeare’s plays and visited Startford-Upon-Avon on Shakespeare’s birthday weekend.
I remained fascinated by Shakespeare’s works when I returned to the U.S., took another Shakespeare course, and traveled twice to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland. Last Spring, I finally got to be in a Shakespeare production. Representing all the little folk (i.e. short people, Hobbits, Yoda, etc.), I played Hermia in A Midsummer Night’s Dream (hence the quote at the top of my bio). It was an incredible experience and I am thrilled to be diving into Shakespeare’s world again!
Shakespeare plays I had read before this project: A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Romeo and Juliet, Othello, King Lear, Macbeth, Love’s Labour’s Lost, Julius Caesar, Twelfth Night, and Measure for Measure
Favorite plays: Macbeth, Love’s Labour’s Lost, Julius Caesar, A Midsummer Night’s Dream
Least favorite play: Don’t have one. I really enjoy all of Shakespeare’s work. Though there are some modern plays I strongly dislike (August: Osage County, for example)
Shows I would love to direct one day: Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, A Midsummer Nights Dream
Characters I would love to play someday: Puck ;D
