I graduated with a degree in English, a concentration in Writing. I also ended up with minors in Latin and Publishing & Printing Arts, but let’s focus on the English. Most people hear about my degree and say, “Oh, so you want to teach, right?” Wrong. Mostly. I don’t want to teach kids. I love them, want some of my own someday, and even nanny 6 of them, but I would rather teach at the college level. The problem is that I’m not great at making decisions, so I haven’t quite picked a focus for grad school.
Until then, I feel like I probably should be developing my English skills to the best of my ability. Yet, even though I love reading and writing, I don’t always do it on my own. I’m an extremely goal-driven individual, so assignments and I get along very well. I’m one of those weird nerds who desperately misses school. If school were free, I never would quit.
Anyway, when Whitney mentioned reading Shakespeare’s plays, I jumped at the chance. I am ashamed at the small number of Shakespeare plays I’ve actually read. I mean, I was an English major and even studied abroad in London. How did I never read any of the history plays? Yet reading Shakespeare is not nearly as much fun without having people with whom you can discuss its beautiful and challenging aspects. That’s why I knew I had to join the book club.
Anything else you should know? I’ve been married for a year as of October 22, 2012 (and I also had to just ask my husband to verify that date). I assist my husband with his wedding and family photography business. I’ve lived in the Pacific Northwest all my life, unless you count my 3 1/2 months in London. I love hedgehogs. Hedgehogs are very cute, especially baby ones!
Shakespeare plays I had read before this project: A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Macbeth, The Tempest, Romeo and Juliet, Othello, Hamlet, King Lear, Twelfth Night, and Measure for Measure
Favorite plays: Macbeth and A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Though a great production of any of these can make me obsess over it for weeks!)
Least favorite play: Probably Othello. It’s just so depressing.
Favorite author who is not Shakespeare: C.S. Lewis
Favorite television shows: Dr. Who, Foyle’s War, and Downton Abbey. Okay, pretty much anything produced by BBC.
